About
This page is about the tool and the person behind it: what it calculates, how its numbers are checked, who runs it, and how to report a mistake.
What this is
keepmypay.app is a free calculator for the two temporary federal deductions introduced by the 2025 tax law: no tax on tips, and no tax on overtime. Enter your filing status, your income and your tip or overtime pay, and it estimates the deduction you could claim on your federal return for tax years 2025 through 2028.
It exists because these rules are awkward to follow from the forms alone — a cap per person, a phase-out range that shrinks the deduction as income rises, and different treatment during the 2025 transition year.
How the numbers are checked
Every rule the calculator applies cites an official source: the Internal Revenue Code, an IRS notice, or IRS form instructions. The calculation code is covered by automated tests that reproduce the worked examples the IRS published and the phase-out boundaries. The source list is re-checked in full whenever the date at the top of this page changes.
- IRS guidance for 2025 tips and overtime — the announcement, with worked examples
- Schedule 1-A (Form 1040) — the form the deduction appears on
- The complete list of ten official sources sits under the calculator on the home page
What it doesn't do
- It is not tax advice — it is an estimate. For your own return, ask a tax professional.
- Federal rules only — no state or local tax is calculated.
- It does not file anything, check your withholding, or keep your numbers — every calculation runs in your browser.
Who runs it
Built and maintained by Varun KV, a software developer — not a tax professional. The rules are read from the IRS publications linked above, then written up in plain words and kept up to date when they change.
How it's paid for
Free to use today, with no ads and no tracking. There is no account to create and nothing to buy. If that ever changes, this page will say so before it happens.
Found an error?
Email [email protected] with what you entered and what looks wrong. Corrections are the reason every rule links to a source. Please don't send sensitive personal information — no Social Security number, no full tax return, no photos of documents.
